"Culture in Action."

Although this does fall under the category of Culture in Action, I don't see how a multiethnic parade is art. I could understand how this action by Daniel Martinez, VinZula Kara and the West Side Three Point Marchers could be seen as tradition or customs but parades happen everywhere which makes me wonder how this one could possibly be considered art while others are not. On page 105 in Kwon, it says that art in the public interest, something like a parade, "encourages community coalition-building in pursuit of social justice and attempts to garner greater institutional empowerment for the artists to act as social agents." The intention of the parade is definitely to shed light on social injustices that other cultures face however that would be considered more activism than art. A parade could be interpreted as a performance which I guess is the art aspect but if because it is so commonplace, it loses its artistic credibility. If a Mona Lisa was created every Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July, Memorial Day etc. it would lose its credibility too.
